Announcing On the Spot!, a new quarterly journal devoted to crime and law enforcement in the 1920s and 30s. All aspects of crime, police work, criminology, crime reporting, etc., will be covered in this journal covering the classic "gangster era" when both crime and law enforcement largely entered the 20th Century, with the cops often lagging far
behind the robbers in technology. Some of our finest crime historians are contributors to
this journal, devoted to objective study of both crime and crime control and featuring
articles on both headline and now-obscure cases. If you're looking for a publication glorifying outlaws and gangsters you'll have to look elsewhere but for a serious historical study of crime and law enforcement in this turbulent period On the Spot! can't be beat. For inquiries, article submissions, subscriptions, advertising, etc., please contact us at:

Hi Rick,

This sounds like a great new journal for those interested in the "Gangster Era." Can someone that does not have a computer just send in a check to you to join? This has come up with our organization in the past, as not all people have access to computers.

Mike

Yes, indeed, Mike, and I'm certainly glad you brought that up, as a number of fine writers, as well as readers, do not have access to the internet at this time. Anyone is welcome to submit articles, or to subscribe, to On the Spot at:

Mad Dog Historical Society
701 Jackson ST
Bussey, IA 50044

Cost is $30 per year for the quarterly journal for U.S. residents, $35 for Canadian, and $40 for overseas.

Thanks, Mike and SapulpaGal, for your comments and interest, and thanks also to the many others who've also given us support.

Our goal here is not to compete with Oklahombres, OKOHLA, PIC, Gangsterologists, or anyone else but merely contribute to the information-sharing process and give added exposure to historians and researchers and to expanded coverage of crime and crime control in the period between the wars.

Thanks for the compliment there, Sapulpa Gal! Everyone seems pleased with it so far. There are a few minor flaws in the first issue that I've noticed (after all, we're new at this) but the objective and well-researched work of the several fine historians who've contributed I think make it all worthwhile. We've got even more great articles lined up for the second issue and I'm sure it will be even more enjoyable and satisfying for the readers and on the production end.
