I am looking for information on J W Swineford or Inford who was the City Marshal of Kiefer when he was shot and killed August 16, 1909. One of the articles I have say he was a former Tulsa Police Officer and buried somewhere in Tulsa. Dose anyone have any information on him under either spelling of his last name? Any additional information would be appreciated. Determining his correct name for a starter.
I have articles from: The Daily Oklahoman - Tues., August 17, 1909 - Page 1, Col. 3 - "Bank Robbed Marshal Slain" (Inford) The Law and Order Journal (Kiefer) - Wed., August 18, 1909 - Page 1, Col. 3 - "Attempted Bank Robbery Has Tragic Results" (J W Swineford) The Daily Oklahoman - Wed., Aug. 18, 1909 - Page 1, Col. 5 - "Tulsa Officers Did Not Capture Bank Robber" (Inford) The Territorial Enterprise - Fri., Aug. 20, 1909 - Page 1, Col. 3 - "Desperadoes Kill Kiefer Marshal" (Inford) Thanks in advance for your help and I hope 2009 is your best year ever, Dennis Dennis L Lippe, Chairman Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial PO Box 10776 Oklahoma City, OK 73140-1776 e-mail: oklememorial@aol.com |

Dennis:
I found J. H. Swinford (b.8-11-1880 d. 8-16-1909) buried in the Twin Mounds Cemetery which is listed on the OKGenWeb Cemetery Project under Tulsa County. From reading the informaion about Twin Mounds, it seems it might be on the line between Tulsa and Creek counties. |
