After Murray was recaptured, she was sent back to Missouri to finish her twenty-five year sentence, plus a couple more years for escaping.

In 1956, she could have been paroled by that time, but, if she was testifying for the government, the FBI probably has a separate file on her that kept track of her whereabouts. Maybe the FOIA could get you some info on her.

Yeah, I'll give that a try. It's a slow process sometimes, tho.

Rick--I know you have sent me some information on Glen Wright...did I ever return the favor? I have his FBI file scanned to CD, as well as newspaper articles and pictures sent to me by you and others.

Hi Mike,
No, I'm still waiting, but very patiently. I'm often slow in that department myself. I may have some other stuff here on Glen you haven't seen but don't know for sure.

Sorry about that...I've been sidetracked lately. I did make contact with a distant cousin, who is a nephew or grand-nephew (if there is such an animal) of Glen Wright. He sent me some great, old family pictures, including one of Glen as a young man.

The Wright's were a well to do family in Malvern AR. Simeon Coe Wright, Glen's father, was a high demand carriage maker. However, in the 1910's and 1920's that industry turned south, with the advent of the automobile, and the economic disaster of that time. When the business went bad, the Wright's packed up and moved to Tulsa, so the boys could find work...the rest is history. Glen turned bad. One of the most frustrating things is that all of the close relatives (nieces and nephews, who are now quite old) have always been very tight lipped about Glen...they absolutely will not talk about him. It's such a waste not to share the good things, and even the bad things about somebody like that.

I'm still digging though.

Mike, I have been researching the Barker's for several years. I have alot of newspaper articles about your great-grandfather's murder. I have articles about his murder, the arrest of suspects, the trial of Doc Barker, and the trial of Volney Davis when he was finally arrested a year later. You may already have all of these, but I would be glad to share my information with you. I live in the Tulsa area, so if you wanted to meet and share info I would like to see the photos of your great-grandfather and the court records you have. I am also very interested in the story about your great uncle and Doc being in jail together. Well, I hope to hear from you and I hope we can meet. Thanks - Jared Barker

The following is an excert from our 2 part article on the Barkers from the Oklahombres Journal:

Following the killing of Ma and Fred Barker, Alvin Karpis and Harry Campbell fled north to Atlantic City. Cornered by police at the Dan-Mor Hotel, on January 20, 1935, they shot their way out and escaped. Their mistresses, Dolores Delaney and Wynona Burdette were captured and later sentenced to 5-years for harboring federal fugitives. Dolores gave birth to a son in custody, named Raymond Alvin Karpis, who was given to Karpis' parents in Chicago to raise.

Karpis and Campbell kidnapped a doctor in Pennsylvania and stole his car, releasing him unharmed in Ohio and abandoning the car in Michigan. They later organized a new gang, robbed a mail truck in Warren, Ohio of $72,000 in April 1935 and a mail train at Garrettsville, Ohio of $34,000 in November 1935. One member of the new gang was the Barkers' old friend Sam Coker, whose parole from the Oklahoma state prison was allegedly bought by Karpis.

Volney Davis and Edna Murray had no children together but were often accompanied by Preston Patton, Edna's teenage son from her first marriage. Preston went to prison in Kansas in 1935 or '36 for murdering a night marshal during a store burglary as I recall.

I have quite a bit of info on Davis. Is there anything particular you're looking for?

Very few postings on this topic but seems to be an awful lot of traffic so I'm guessing there's plenty of interest here. We've accumulated a great deal of new info since my last posting but all leads are welcome. Just drop me or Ron a line if you like.

Davis died in California, not Oregon as sometimes reported, in 1978. I have the city and date in my files but don't recall it exactly off the top of my head.

Paula Harmon seems to have been an "interesting"
character in her time as a Barker moll.
Was she ever interviewed about her days with
the Barkers?

Hi,

I don't think anyone except for Bailey, Terrill and Karpis, ever discussed Ma Barker at any length.

Rick,
Get in touch with Ron Trekell, who wrote the Tulsa Police Department history, I think he managed to save a lot of the TPD files from that era that were going to be discarded.
You might find something there.

Chuck
How can I get in touch with Ron Trekell to help find some dates on the arrests of Fred Barker in Tulsa Ok.? fhendricks. E-mail address: fsiegel47@msn.com. Thanks

Hello, QP McGhee was my great great granduncle...I just started researching him. The only thing I have been able to find is what is in the Emmett Starr books on Indians. Any information would be appreciated.
I do have a copy of his headstone - but I am sure you have that being you researched the Barker gang (which I also have theirs - which is basicly just a card stuck in the ground)
