Ron Morgan's new book Tri-State Terror: The Life and Crimes of Wilbur Underhill will be released by New Forums Press on March 1 and pre-publication orders are being taken by New Forums at this time at 1-800-606-3766. 300 pages, paperback, with a wealth of new information in this fantastically researched work on one of the most notorious of Depression outlaws.

Scheduled for release at the same time from Indiana University Press is the new expanded paperback edition of Dillinger: The Untold Story by G. Russell Girardin and William J. Helmer with a long section of new information which has surfaced in the years since the book was originally published in 1994. This may be ordered from Amazon now.

For those weird folks like me who read the stuff at the beginning, I wrote the forewords for both these books. But anyhow they are both great books and belong in the libraries of anyone interested in 20s & 30s outlawry.

Hi,

Will be looking forward to seeing these two editions to the depression era history. Many older and some recent books have mentioned Wilbur Underhill. One murder case is still active concerning him. Dillinger is of course a legend in the this genre.

Hi Maddog...Truly enjoyed Dillinger the Untold Story can't wait for the new one. I have read 'Tri-State' and found a wealth of new information...but what was paricularly interesting were the photographs of the the Shawnee posse and the presence of Clarence Hurt and I remembered the photograph of Dillinger on the slab that is in Dary Matera's Dillinger book, it is a wide top shot and all we can see is Dillingers legs, the rest of him is hidden by the crowds, in the crowd in the bottom left hand corner is, or looks like Clarence Hurt, he is not refered to in the caption beneath but everything tallies, the set of his hat,the widows peak hairline, shape of the nose, his build, he is looking less dapper than in the Shawnee shot but we all know that it was a hot night in Chicago and in Shawnee he would have been wearing his winter clothes,in Chicago light summer wear, what do you think? I would like to know your opinion, it might be that this is well known...all the best Pat Gavin

Hi,

These two books are very interesting and have a wealth of information concerning 1930s bandits that were in the news quite often. The Shawnee posse photograph was originally in an OklahombreS journal article a few ywars ago. I too like to research and read about these characters of our history, especially those that were in Oklahoma.

I just finished the book a short time ago. Very interesting. I think R.D. Morgan's books are extremely interesting and well-researched. I think they could be edited a bit better...too may misspellings and grammatical errors. Still, well worth acquiring the books.
