I went to the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library, and they recommended a page supposedly on this site, oklahombres.org/sideshow.htm . When I try to load the page, it can't be found.

Any ideas? I've become quite taken with Elmer McCurdy's story, and am looking for any and all information available.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

Elmer McCurdy was an interesting character of the old west and there is a fairly new book out on his life. I do not have a copy and don't know the author, but any book store should be able to locate it for you. That would be your best bet. Also try AskJeeves.Com and type in Elmer's name. You will get any hit there are on the internet for him. Good luck!

There's a book entitled "Elmer McCurdy: The Misadventures in Life and Afterlife of an American Outlaw" by Mark Svenvold. I purchased a hardback copy of it a couple years ago for about $10 but I just saw one yesterday at Ball's Books in Norman, Oklahoma for $5.95 though it is a softcover. Very interesting reading and pretty much gives all that is currently known on him. I believe Glenn Shirley, now deceased and former member of Oklahombres, was one of the pallbearers at his funeral in Summit View Cemetery at Guthrie. I also believe Guthrie artist Fred Olds was one as well.

Thanks for the "heads-up" on the McCurdy book at the Norman, Oklahoma, bookstore. I bought it this afternoon.

302 pages - soft cover - with 14 pages of Notes and Sources. No index. No photos or illustrations, except for a picture of Elmer (in his coffin) on the cover of the book. There is some printing along the border of the front cover and again along the top of the back cover that states, "Advanced Uncorrected Proof - Not For Sale".

I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone in the Norman area to visit this book store, which is directly across the street from Norman High School at 920 W. Main. The business sign outside says Ball's Books; however, I believe that, as of September 1st, it's under new management, calling itself "Book Ends", now. They have a great selection of Old West & Western Americana, Native American, Military, Biographies, etc.

Thanks again for the information about the location of the book.
