The following information on Overstreet can be found in my book "Alive If Possible, Dead If Necessary."
But by Sunday, December 14, 1924, lawmen announced that Dutch Webber, Blackie Thompson, and the rest of the old Al Spencer gang were not responsible for the robbery of the Shawnee bank. The announcement came following the capture of Ashley Hall, who owned the tinshop in Bristow where the bank robbery was planned. Still wanted were James Overstreet, who was a fugitive from the Granite Reformatory, and East St. Louis gangsters Arthur Dixon and James Bryce. Overstreet was captured on Tuesday, December 16th, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas. Shawnee lawmen were en route there to return Overstreet to Oklahoma on charges of bank robbery and possibly murder. Overstreet was a suspect in the death of bandit Joe Marshall. Overstreet had escaped from the Granite reformatory in August 1923, while serving time for dynamiting a house during the railroad shoremen’s strike in Shawnee in 1923.
