Does anybody have any information on him or know where to look? I'm new here and don't have a good feel for research sources on the mrshals in Judge Parker's court.
Thank you, Mike |

I'm not familiar with this particular deputy but I suggest you try the Fort Smith Historical site's data base of former federal employees and the Fort Smith Elevator newspaper.

Robert King's list of U.S. Marshals and Deputy U.S. Marshals only has a single reference to a Deputy U.S. Marshal D. W. Shepherd, who was commissioned on February 3, 1896 in the Western District of Fort Smith, to serve under U.S. Marshal George Crump.
Mr. King's sources are: Ft. Smith Federal Court Employees Data Base, Ft. Smith Oath's of Office, and Ft. Smith Historical List. I don't know if any of these sources can be accessed on the internet. Someone else will have to advise you on that. Tower's suggestion of searching the Ft. Smith Elevator newspapers is a good starting point. |

Thanks, all. I'll see what I can do to check the Ft. Smith Elevator.
Does anybody know if the oaths of office contian any infomration about the individual besides their name? (I'm guessing probably not...). Thanks, Mike |
