Tennessee was a black deputy city marshal of Oktaha (Muskogee Co). The evening of Saturday, March 25, 1905, he was on duty at a black dance in Oktaha when some drunk white men started "looking on". When Tennesse tried to arrest one of the men, Walter Woods, one of his friends, John Price, shot the deputy. Deputy Tennessee died the next day.
Looking for any information on this incident.
Have articles from:
Muskogee Daily Phoenix, 3-28-1905;
Muskogee Daily Phoenix, 3-30-1905 (same story);
Checotah Enquirer 3-31-1905;
*Muskogee Daily Phoenix 4-6-1905;
Osage City (KS) Free Press 4-6-1905 pg 6;
All of these articles pretty well tell the same story of only the shooting and * Price being arrested in Oklahoma City.
Any more information would be appreciated.
