April 22, 1889 a Finney Myers was in contempt of court for attempting to hold conversation with the jury while engaged in a murder case. Judge Parker signed a supoena on April 23, 1889 in Ft Smith and was issued by John Carroll U.S. Marshal and J K Barling Deputy Marshal. There were also names of Sam Carter and Harry Jucek named. Might of been people of the jury?
The jury on the Jack Spaniard case went into delibrations on April 12, 1889. Can someone help find who was in court right after or was it still the Spaniard case. I have a document with the number of 2925 United States vs & Contempt - Finney Myers. There also was a J.F. Myers on another document #6129 for a criminal case. I believe this is the same person. It would also be possible to be Jacob Finney Myers.I have been searching this for years and need some help if someone knows something or where to go with this. |

I believe the only place you're gonna find information as to the sequence of trials and what was going on in the courtroom at any given time are in the court daybooks, minute books, etc. that can be found on microfilm in the Fort Smith Public Library. The National Archives at Fort Worth, Texas hold the originals.
I have been researching case files from the Fort Smith court for over 10 years and it seems like the docket numbers may have been in chronological order, but the filing system for the case files was absolutely horrible and was based on the last name of the defendant. So you could have docket #67 tried in 1867 and #6767 tried in 1899 right next to each other just because the defendant's name on both was Smith. I have found that Finney Myers was in court for the William T Hardin murder trial. Myers was found guilty of contempt and charged a $10.00 fine. I will have more documation soon as I want to know more of William T Hardin.
