Looking for information on Deputy John T. Morris, especially later life, death and burial. He shot and killed Jim Reed, the husband of Belle Starr, in 1874, while acting as a special deputy. In 1894, he was commisioned a deputy out of Ft. Smith, and listed his place of residence as Edna, Kansas. I can find no further mention of him. Any iformation would be greatly appreciated.

OK, now to complicate things a bit more, In the book "Texas Lawmen", by Clifford R. Caldwell and Ron DeLord, they mention a John T. Morris(1825-1885), born in New York, and served as a US Revenue Agent and Deputy US Marshall. He was killed by Texas Rangers in Toyah while serving as Sheriff of Reeves county, drunk and beliggerant. There is no mention of him being the same person who killed Jim Reed in 1874, and he certainly would not have been appointed Deputy out of Fort Smith in 1894, since he was currently dead at that time.
