A J Mathis was convicted and sentenced to 10 years at first Jefferson City Barracks and later to FT Leavenworth. His married daughters stayed in OK but A J went to CA and in 1917 moved to Tucson AZ. This mans life came full circle there when he was murdered by a woman and her new friend Jack. Jack was never located after he signed for the sale of AJ's car in Amarillo. Eva Dugan was tried and convicted of his murder and became the first and only woman hung in the AZ state prison. This case had evoked so much publicity that reporters from around the world came to Tucson, so just imagine the hue and cry when Eva's head came off!
