Hello, i was raised in tahlequah and know the story of Christie/Maples very well. i would like to know if anyone out there can tell me the exact spot where Dan Maples met his end? is it on the creek behind the old courthouse? or is it closer towards the university? i have often wondered why there is not a historical marker set up in place or is it something i have missed seeing in the 30 yrs i have been here?

A few years back I had a conversation with a gentleman whom I believe taught at NSU and was of Cherokee heritage. He told me that where Maples was killed, was now located in his front yard in Tahlequah, near campus. I believe he was related to the Ross's and possible Benge families. I am sorry it has been awhile since I had this conversation. But he was working at the university as a professor.

The location is very close to the university... next to Town Branch where the bridge is.
