I am interested in what event made a good "Okie." My grandfather left Texas around 1902-1903 and settled in Hugo. He lead a respectful life and was highly regarded in his trade as cabinet maker and construction carpenter. But the reason for him relocating from Texas has always been a mystery. He told his family that if he had ever returned to Texas, it would have resulted in a hanging. Dad and my Grandmother would return to Deklab, TX and visit but my Grandfather would stay in Oklahoma.
