Do you have a date of death on George Jones? If so, have you checked the old newspapers to see if there was a write up when he died? If there was, it might give some dates, etc. If you are not in OK, and will post his date of death, I'll check the old newspapers for you.

Thank's for the reply it,s truly appericated. I've gathered a bit more information since I posted my request. My grandfather was of French-Irish-Cherokee descent, his full given name is George Lafate Jones born in Alabama on 8-27-1854 deceased 5-9-1910 Purcell Oklahoma.Married to Martha L. Ellis 2-27-1876 either in OK.or ARK. she was 1/2 Cherokee her mother was full blood. She was born 8-24-1859 also in Alabama deceased 10-29 1938 at Pucell Oklahoma. They apperently live & he proably marshalled around Caddo from about 1876 to 1900. They had several children born in Caddo while residing there. I'm in the process of contacting other surviving members of my family which since I'm completely new to this type of research is about all I know to do at this time. Any and all help is highly appericated. Thanks for your interest and contribution. P.S. The Muleskinner angle orginates from my grandPa Jones since he was known for his mules as much as his marshalling or so the story is told. The orginal Festus maybe?

Okay, I'll check the newspapers of the times when they both died for the Purcell area and see if any information was written about them. If he were a lawman, surely they did a write up about him. Good luck chasing down family.

Pooh - I just knew there would be a writeup about services - but it didn't mention a thing. I found a death notice on both G. Jones and his wife - his didn't give much information at all - hers gave a list of a bunch of kids. If you want these copies, I can mail them to you, but would need a postal address.

George is my great grandfather. Would appreciate a copy of the death notices as well. Hard to find any info on the Jones. Name is too common. My father and brother were named after George, with a middle name of Lafayte. I was told no one knew how to spell it. I have seen the tombstones many times in Purcell.
