I stumbled across this site. I am searching for my Grandfather's family. He at least went by John W. Newcomb. Family history says that he had a brother in Indian Territory, who was married to a Cherokee? woman called "Black Jane". Supposedly a Newcomb brother killed a "Federal officer", or ""Yankee" soldier, possibly in Missouri, & 3 brothers fled, my Grandfather being 16 years old. My Dad said the Ok. brother was in trouble with the law, & couldn't leave Indian Territory(or he would be arrested).....My Grandfather was born in 1833, & came to Tex. before the Civil war. No trail behind that! Thanks anyway!
