My great grandmother lived in Oilton, OK. and is ssaid to have dated Johnny Jost(Yoast?). He was a friend of Belle Starr who gave him a colt .41 cal. derringer, who then gave it to my grandmother when they were dating. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could verify this other than my grandmothers telling me the story. My great Uncle Howard Claborn had a set of either Ivory or pearl handled derringers. He was a gambler and I was told by family members that he had used the derringers a time or two. My grandfather was the town police officer in Quinton Oklahoma when he took Pretty Boy Floyd on a hunting trip without knowing who he was until later. The point of all of this is that there is a side story on the derringers that I seem to remember had something to do with Belle Star and that my Great Uncle Howard had come into them from his father. I will try to find out more details on this story. It probably has absolutely nothing to do with your derringer but with Belle Star as a connection, who knows?
