I am searching for information on Noah McGill. He was appointed Sheriff of Pickens County in Oklahoma around 1885 by Chickasaw Nation's Gov. Byrd. Noah has a short Bio in a book called "History of Indian Territory" by Gideon. Noah McGill is my GGF and I am not having much luck learning about this man as a lawman in this part of Oklahoma. I understand that once he and his brother were searching out some "bad guys" and Noah's brother was killed. I would appreciate any help on this and Thank You, Jim Howe jjhowe@tsf.net

Noah must have been a Chickasaw citizen either by blood or by marriage. A good place to start would be the Chickasaw archives at the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Indian Pioneer Papers at the OHS also. A newspaper search may also be rewarding, take a look at what newspapers were printing at that time in the Chickasaw Nation. Much luck on your search

Thanks for all the new information on Noah McGill. Yes, he was a promnent Chickasaw Indian. He was a "Pull back" and he supported Governors Overton and Byrd. I heard he was also a body guard for them through one of his sons' daughter-in-law. Not much is remember of the man. What you have provided will help me put more to the man than a name and a paper trail. Thanks again for your help.
