Everyone knows that William Bonney, alias Billy the Kid, was killed by Pat Garrett around midnight on July 14, 1881 at Fort Sumner, NM. Or, was he?
Authors like William V. Morrison, W. C. Jameson, William A. Tunstill, Jannay P. Valdez, and Robert E. Hefner wrote that Billy the Kid escaped death that night and died an old man by the name of Brushy Bill Roberts in Hico, Texas in 1950. In fact, the folks at Hico have a celebration every year called the Billy the Kid Days. They even have a museum and a statue of Billy. Unbelievable, but true, they are so sure that Brushy was Billy the Kid, that their Chamber of Commerce has offered $10,000 to anyone who could prove that Brushy was a fake. Well, the truth eventually had to come out. Jim has uncovered undeniable proof that Brushy Bill was just another old man seeking fame. On the other hand, author, Helen Airy, wrote about a man by the name of John Miller whose family claimed that he was Billy the Kid. John Miller himself never really claimed he was Billy the Kid until he was under the influence of alcohol, only to deny that he wasn't after he sobered up. Jim, again, found significant proof that John Miller was not Billy the Kid. But , who was William Bonney, alias Billy the Kid? Most authors and historians agree that his real name was Henry McCarty. Again, Jim does not necessarily agree and provides some insight as to why he has some doubt. Whether you believe Brushy Bill or John Miller was Billy the Kid or not, Jim's book is worth reading. In his book, Jim provides a lot of new information on Billy the Kid, Henry McCarty, William Bonney, Brushy Bill Roberts, and John Miller, as well as, Buckshot Roberts and Johnny Ringo. You've heard all of the so-called 'evidence' against Brushy Bill, and now, you can see the real hardcore evidence. Congradulations on your book. But, I though Phillip Rasch, and a host of others, sorta cleared up the issue of Billy's last name. Are you offering new evidence?
I also feel I have to point out that Fred Nolan in a recent response to the DNA testing and attempts to link samples from a bench to the Kid, says the: "(alleged )blood samples from the (alleged )carpenter's bench on which (it is alleged) the Kid's body was laid out." Nolan also says testing will be done of the (alleged) remains of John Miller and that there is also a proposal to dig up Brushy Bill too, who it was alleged, was Billy the Kid. Sounds like Fred is hedging his bets until the alleged count is final. There are some other posts on this board re the Kid. Best way to find them is to go to find and type the name in. The search will bring up several discussions. |

There has been a big price reduction on the book to make it more competitive with similar books. It's a steal.
