Anyone know what happened to USDM Grant Owens of "P" and "Q" counties in the Cherokee Strip. A very active deputy and saloon owner in Morrison, O.T. Thanks........
Yes, I know what happened to Grant Owens. He was my Grandfather. He was married in 1896 in Crystal, Oklahoma Territory (where ever that is, I assume it is a ghost town, as I have yet to find it). His marriage certificate states he lived in Morrison OT.
My father(his son, David Grant Owens)had told me Grant was a Deputy US marshal. But though I had searched time and time again, I never found anything until tonight. His real name wasn't Grant though. This though he went his entire life being called Grant, and even married as such. His real name was David Grant Owens. I believe he chose to be called Grant because his Uncle David lived in close proximity, while he was growing up. Grant is buried in Tulsa,OK. Hopefully, who ever posted this will reply (I know it's been a long time, are you still out there?). As I never knew my Grandfather owned a saloon. I am interested in finding out more! Thanks, both to you and to Oklahombres Online!
Crystal is present Maramec in Pawnee County, Oklahoma. It was a post office as Crystal from 1894 through 1903 when the town's name was changed. It took its name from nearby Crystal Springs.

Wow! at long last, I have located Grant Owens and now know his resting place. Thanks!! Sometimes I fall asleep at the wheel and have to back track some of my research, Sorry! Grant Owens was apparently married at Maramec, Oklahoma (Crystal), a town located South and East of Pawnee, Oklahoma. Grant Owens was one of many "Real Working" Deputy U.S. Marshals that were part of the Cherokee Strip opening. Many, many Deputy commissions were given out. Some U.S. Deputies did nothing, some claimed to have done fantastic arrests, and there were some like your Grandfather That can be documented doing a real job in the position of Deputy U.S. Marshal.. Grant Owens was one of three DUSM's that captured Cattle Annie and Little Britches West of Pawnee. Grant Owens name appears other times on the U.S. Dockett making arrests. Somewhere I have read that Grant was an owner or operator of a saloon in Morrison, OK. Congratulations, your Grandfather was a "Real" Deputy U.S. Marshal. feel free to cantact me at henri40@brightok.net and we'll did for more. Real Storie Okie
