Marshalltown has been noted as an outlaw town located in the Creek Nation in the 1870s and 1880s, a rendezvous for horse and cattle thieves. It was located just north of Muskogee, near the fork of the three rivers. At one time the notorious Dick Glass was supposed to have held sway over the village. The town was eventually wiped out by law enforcement officers. Has anyone seen anything in regards to the cleaning out of Marshalltown by peace officers, or when it happened?

Art, according to Carolyn Thomas Foreman article in the Chronicles of Oklahoma a raid did occur but the end result was greatly exaggerated. When Alex Norman was wounded and young William Cobb killed in July, 1880, in a gun fight with a party from Marshalltown, the Cherokee became aroused and a party of more than a hundred armed men left Fort Gibson, where a payment was in progress, to wipe out the settlement. The road to the ferry was crowded and the ferry boat was kept busy all afternoon, and until late in the evening carrying men across Grand River. By morning the several hundred men who had gathered were furnished with food and ammunition. When they were organized and equipped they advanced upon the settlement and were amazed to find the place practically deserted. The invaders burned a few shacks and pinned notices to the doors of others warning the citizens not to cross into the Cherokee Nation or steal their cattle under pain of another raid. The warning proved sufficient to prevent further trouble in that part of the territory.
Another reference says Sam Sixkiller and Wm Fields as U. S. Indian Police were involved and another source says only Fields was.

Thanks Tower. Most interesting. The Creek Nation representatives appears no where to be seen in this incident at Marshall Town.
