As many people have expressed an interest in the doings of the Paul family of Pauls Valley, it is with the greatest of pleasure that I announce Bill and Cindy Paul's book, Shadow Of An Indian Star has been published. The book is a 6 by 9 hardback with 460 pages and is easy reading. Bill and Cindy have spent more than a decade researching the Paul family and have a garage full of documentation to back up even the most bizarre episodes appearing in this book; they just didn't feel like adding the head busting footnotes. The book is, nevertheless, an accurate account "chronicling three generations of a brawling pioneer family, their friends and enemies, and the women who helped battle tragedy, corruption, and their own inner demons to save themselves and the Chickasaw Nation from annihilation." If you are interested in learning the real truth of the pre-statehood era, this is a "must" read.

Shadow of an Indian Star won't be available in book stores to the general public until September, but, advance copies will be arriving by the first of June, if the literal boat don't sink, and orders can be placed at http://www.shadowofanindianstar.com/

I just finished this book. What a magnificently interesting read it was. Growing up in Garvin County I knew of Smith Paul but had no idea what a fascinating story lay beneath the surface. I was truly sad to finish the book. Perhaps I should have savored the words instead of devouring them. LOL

Thanks for sharing your family’s wonderful story.
