My great-grandfather was a Deputy Sheriff in or about Washita County at the turn of the century. My family has a poor copy of a newspaper article from what we were told was Sept 5, 1905 which describes a shoot-out he was involved in with a gang of horse thieves in Cordell.
I have been in contact with the Cordell newspaper, and they scoured their archives and found most of 1905 missing. There is a top line in the article that could mean the article was printed in another paper, possibly Olkahoma City, or a neighboring city.
I have found that each paper web site wants to collect a nice sum for searching the archives and I simply cannot afford it.
The article (what we can read from it) is really interesting and we would like to locate the original page it came from and have it photographed for framing.
Anyone have any ideas on how best to locate this or any other articles on Deputy Bill Owens?
It is a bit difficult attempting this from California.
