Luther Smith question

Can anyone give me more information on this dude? I keep running into stories involving him between 1891 and 1895 and even found a picture on the rootsweb Lawmen and Outlaws site, but I don't seem to be able to find any hard information on him. Here's an example of the articles I'm finding:
Purcell Register, Friday, June 1, 1894, p. 5: Deputy Marshals Matt Cook and Luther Smith were out in the Seminole country last Saturday on the trail of some parties and went into camp at night. Toward morning Matt heard a noise among the horses picketed near by and went out without dressing to ascertain the cause. He saw a Negro attempting to steal one of the horses, and shot at him, but the light was so dim it was hard to shoot with any accuracy. The Negro returned the fire and several shots were exchanged between the parties, Luther also waking and joining in the chorus with the music of his Winchester. The Negro made his escape around a hill conveniently near, but was thought to have been wounded. After the battle was over, Marshal Cook found that he had been shot through the right foot, making an ugly wound and quite painful, but not dangerous wound. He came home and has been under good medical attention, his wound healing quite satisfactorily.

Mike:
Luther Smith was born about 1868 in Missouri. His father was from IL and his mother of MO.
He married Retta Cecil but that was not her maiden name as she was likely a widow as she had a son named Cecil.
They were in Grady Co., OK 1910 in Amber Twp. They had one small child so they probably had not been married for long. He was listed as farmer.I do not find him in 1900 as yet. Lots of Smiths out there in Indian territory.

Since posting this I've visited with a granddaughter who says: he was born Dec 5, 1867 in Marionville, MO and died Sep 17, 1936.
I did find him on the 1890 census in Purcell, listed as a deputy marshal.
