Nice to see this site up and running. I used to post on a prior version of it years ago.

I enjoyed the posts about the train robbers.

My step mother's grandfather was Joe Ventioner, a Dewey County Deputy Sheriff who along with another deputy are the ones who finally shot Red Buck near Arapaho. I have newspapers articles from then that said that Joe was wounded in the hip and went to the hotel in Arapaho to recuperate. No emergency rooms back then!

I was just reading an interesting history of the Dalton/Doolin gang which talks about Joe Ventioner. I'll put the link to it here so you guys might want to read it. Neat stuff.

I possess, and am thinking about buying, the revolver that Red Buck was carrying when he was killed. The grandson or great grandson of the deputy who killed him kept the revolver and holster. At least, that's the story.

What is the name of the deputy, according to your records?

Joseph Ventioner was a deputy sheriff for “D” County in 1896. He was a deputy U.S. marshal in Oklahoma Territory in 1897-1898 stationed at Taloga.

Who is Red Buck? My gggrandpa was also called Red Buck, he was a horse thief and was supposedly hung in the Arapahoe Nation. His real name was David Barnes.
