Judge Lorenzo D. Dickerson, formerly Ran Dickerson, U. S. Deputy Marshal , was Commissioner of the Federal Court at Purcell. He was first a deputy from 1889 under his brother, J. J. Dickerson of the Eastern District of Texas. In 1893, he was appointed to the court at Purcell. In 1898, he was a deputy Marshal under Captain Hammer. Then in 1902, he was a Marshal under B. H. Colbert. Ran was also a representative in the Chickasaw House and Mayor of Purcell. By 1907, he was again Commissioner. The following was found in the Pauls Valley Enterprise, 10-31-1907:
Judge Dickerson...holds court assisted with the most unique attaches in the new state. The Court Crier is Col. T. J. Smith, a Confedrate veteran. Tom Burke is one of the balifffs and the youngest living veteran of the civil war. (Enlisting when he was 11 years of age for which service he draws a pension.) Ed Burney, a native Indian, is another bailiff assisted by John Riley, a Cherokee Indian and a graduate of Yale."
