Does any one have any information on a Deputy US Marshal named Goddard who was shot and killed around the middle of August 1900 near Goodwater. I.T. by Ambrose Wilson a Choctaw?
Only have an article from The Dallas Morning News of August 21, 1900, with a date line of South McAlester, I.T.,Aug. 20. Stating that Wilson had been arrested for "...having killed Deputy Marshal Goddard near Goodwater last week..." Any info would be appreciated. The only Goddard I've ever run across as a deputy marshal was an E.E. Goddard, noted in the Fort Smith list. HOwever, I have found that many of the deputies on that list were actually never deputies for the Western District of Arkansas but were deputies from the I.T. courts, Kansas, or Texas.
I checked the Dallas MOrning News for that time period and all I found was the one you mentioned. Nothing before or after. Also nothing on the killer in those papers. On the Trail Diron Ahlquist Secretary, Oklahombres Inc. |

Thanks Diron.
Liz found Herbert M. Goddard (b.12-1859)on the 1900 Choctaw Nation, I.T. census, ED 19, Sheet 1A; Township 7 South, Range 26 East. His occupation is listed as U. S. Deputy Marshal. She is continuing to research him for us. Dennis L Lippe, Chairman Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial PO Box 10776 Oklahoma City, OK 73140-1776 e-mail: oklememorial@aol.com |
