Not necessarily in the vein of your posts on here , I just wanted to tell a short story on my dad, maybe it is evidence of dna or conditioned behavior. My dad was born in those ol Eastern Oklahoma Mountains, his dad was a coal miner and hunter, nephew to my main topic on here, Sam Wingo.
My grampaw was tough as they come, if you saw the movie Hard Times with Charles Bronson my grampaw did the same thing, fighting , coal mining and hunting/fishing. Just a different breed of people. My dad was a 60 year Texas lawman with too many credentials and statuses to list, a Phd in Psychology..6 feet tall 230 pounds of unordinary muscle even at the age of 80 when he died this past February 2009. My dad was 14 when he went in the Navy. Fought in the South Pacific. Was a navy welder. He developed asbestosis and lost a lung to it several years ago, his bull physique never left him. One day when he was 78, had one lung and was on oxygen 24/7 he was taking my mom into an IHOP. Parking in the back they saw a young and large man beating up a woman, his instincts as a lawman popped up as did his pure ol get it done attitude. With his oxygen attached, cannister in left hand, bellering more loudly than should have been with the disorders he had, he ran at the man beating the woman, cannister in one hand, pocket knife in the other , telling the assaulter what he was gonna do when he got to him. 78 years old and disabled, the attacker ended his assault on the woman and tried to yell and aggress himself on the 78 year old defender, the attacker when he saw no retreat from the old disabled man and he himself retreated and left his victim to fend for herself. Attitude as that, toughness as that, likely carry over from that Oklahoma way of life. |
