GUTHRIE, Ok., Dec. 5. About 7 o' clock last evening Representative Lewis, of Logan County, was seated at a table in the Santa Fe restaurant, the most popular resort in town, eating his supper surrounded by his family when a young Virginian named Hancock, who occupied a seat at a table just opposite, began criticizing Mr. Lewis' course in the Legislature on the mixed school question, he having voted in favor of mixed schools.

Foul words were used when Mr. Lewis drew his revolver. The Virginian quick as a flash threw a coffee cup which weighed about a pound and it landed on the cheek of Mr. Lewis.

The result was a long cut on the left side of the face, an ear taken off and several teeth scattered indiscriminately on the floor.

Governor Steele had strolled in to purchase a cigar, but owing to the unpleasantness had left the cafe hurriedly.

Dr. Cotteral was called for and sewed up the cuts. Mr. Lewis is seriously hurt, but not dangerously.

The average Oklahoma representative takes some risks in this country. The losing of ear on one side of the face is a small matter.
