I am trying to do research on Mamie Fossett, daughter of William Fossett U S Marshall. Mamie was a U S Deputy Marshall out of Guthrie. I was told there might be a picture of her in the book written by Jim Fulbright. Would anyone have a copy of that book and could tell me if there is a picture of Mamie, I hate to be cheap and not buy the book but right now at Christmas I just dont have an extra 25.00 to spend on me, and I am dying to see what Mamie looks like.

Hi!
I wrote to the editor of NOLA (Nat'l Association for Outlaw and Lawman History) & requested the January-March 1998 issue of their publication for $6. There is a sketch of Mamie Fossett in it & an article about her & S.M. Burche, both U.S. Deputy Marshals. Write to: Chuck Parsons RR2 Box 148-A - 932 E. Main St. Yorktown, TX 78164-9538 I would appreciate your sharing with me any other info you may have or come across about Mamie or Ms. Burche. Thanks! Pat Martin MbarM33@msn.com I |

I have a 9/26/07 posting requesting information on a firearm and holster possibly owned by U.S. Marshal W.D. "Bill" Fossett. Needless to say, I would be interested in firearms owned by his daughter Mamie and/or son Lewis.

I am Deborah, ggd of Mamie. We communicated a couple of years ago. Am glad to see you have read the book by Jim Fulbright. It should answer most of your questions. I agree with the post that Mamie was a clerk and was deputised occasionally for special assignments.
Since the book I have learned that her mother died when Mamie was 14 and that explains why she was with her father Bill. He mother remarried after divorcing Fossett and her name was Elizabeth Salsberry. She is burried in the Kingfisher cemetery. So evidentally Elizabeth and her husband moved to Kingfisher after Bill was there. I believe she died in 1892. I also found a post card to my grandmother from Mamie in 1926 from Oklahoma City. So that is now last documentation of her whereabouts. I continue to try to find what became of her. I remember a mention that she died in a hospital in Oklahoma in I believe McAlester, but have not been able to trace that. I know her brother died in Talahina which is close to McAlester which could also be a lead. All in all I believe Mamie had a sad time. Her parents divorced when she was 7, her mother died when she was 14, she married and within 10 years her husband died. She then lost her only child to her husbands family and had little contact with her after that. I continue to look for her and would be interested in any information of obtaining hospital death records for Oklahoma. She does not show up in the Oklahoma State deather records which I cannon understand since it would have been after 1926. |
