I just joined a group in Topeka Ks called Wild Women of the Frontier, Each women protrays a factual person from the 1800's west of the Mississippi. I would like to portray Mamie Fossett, she was a U.S. deputy marshall under C. Thompson in the 1890's. She worked out of Guthrie. I am searching for information about her or her family. I know her father was also a U.S. Marshall . Thanks Lisa

I wrote an article on a real female deputy U.S. marshal who went into the field on a regular basis. You can read this article at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmurray/stories/lady_shootist.htm I believe Ms. Fossett was a federal clerk that was deputized on special occasions. |

Hey this is great, I already have that article, I tried to email the address that it had on the article and it came back to me. Do you know anything about her life or where I could find out, So far I know who her father is, I know who her husband is, heck I even have her address when she lived in Guthrie when she lived with her father and also after she was married but I have no clue when she was born or died, and what she did in between, I got a story from a lady in Texas, and she told me that Mamies father , killed an outlaw and gave her the guys white horse. any info I can find on her I would live to have, also does anyone know of a picture of SALLY SKULL ? I would love to find a picture of her. thanks

"W. D. 'Bill' Fossett - Pioneer and Peace Officer", by Jim Fulbright (2002).
ISBN 10-0966403959 ISBN 13-928-0966403954 Two (2) copies are currently being offered on Alibris.com (book sellers). If memory serves me right, I believe there's a photograph of Bill Fossett's daughter in this biography -- she's riding a white horse in a parade at Kingfisher, OK. |
