I'm trying to find anything I can on the period my G-GF was a deputy sheriff out of Tecumseh, Oklahoma (before Shawnee was county seat).

It would have been between 1895-1915. Two of the sheriffs during this time were Dink Pierce and Bill Grace.

My GGF was George W. Davenport who lived down around the Macomb area during the 15 years or so he was a deputy.

Surely there were some recorded incidents during his lawman days. Photos? I've tried searching the papers, and I've even put letter-to-the-editor in Shawnee and Tecumseh papers -- to no avail. Is there a book anyone knows of?

Have you checked the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Department? They may have old records in archives. Or try the County or Court Clerk's offices.

Mae - my husband's great uncle was Deputy Sheriff Bill Grace who you mention in your post. Do you have any information on him at all?

In your searches have you ran across info on a William J. Dickerson who was sheriff in 1897 ?

No, I have nothing on Bill Grace other than my GGF was a deputy when Bill was sheriff. Sorry... surely there is somewhere that has info on their time wearing a star. I just wish I knew where else to look!

Also... no, I've not heard of William Dickerson. Sorry.
