Anyone reading this board have any information on Artemus Barker who was somewhat of an outlaw in IT. All the information I have on him is that he came to IT in 1874 and married a school teacher by the name of Mary Rogers.
He was born in MS (parents were Andrew Jackson Barker and Susan Davis Barker). His mother died in MS (she was born 5-18-1849) after giving birth to three children one of whom was Artemus. The father remarried and moved the family moved to Limestone Co., TX. From there Artemus moved to OK - I do not know if he went alone or if his father moved the family to IT. I'm endeavoring to find a place to start searching in OK for Artemus. He seems to have disappeared from family records after coming to IT. |

I now have more information on Artemus Barker. His name is Artemus Andrew Barker (often went by Art), and I have located him on the 1900 & 1910 census records in Craig County. It seems he died circa 1918.
He married a Mary A.Rogers (may or may not be connected to the Will Rogers line - family lore says she is, but I can't find it). Artemus and Mary had 8 children; some are found on the 1920 census. Again, family lore says Artemus was somewhat of an outlaw. Anyone ever hear of him? |
