An Oklahoma City newspaper, in naming members of the Christian gang, listed "Ben Brown, a powerful Negro and notorious bad man."
Does anyone know the Brown the paper was referring to? Was it the same Brown who according to a Purcell Register of 1888 was "the young colored man who shot and killed Henry Colbert last December.." at Walnut and who came in and gave himself up, thinking it would be allright because "Colbert was a bad man generally," and who was later named in an 1894 Territorial Topics article as being bound over to the Paris Court for assault with intent to murder at a Johnson picnic? Or, was Brown the same as the Creek Freedman and outlaw Ben Love?
