I just had the pleasure of reading "Water in Thirsty Land," by Ruth Lea Ealy the daughter of Rev. Taylor F. Ealy, a physician and Presbyterian missionary. By using her parents letters and diaries and her own rememberances gave a wonderful description of the Ft. Arbuckle area as it was in the mid-1870's. According to her rendering, Dr. Ealy arrived at Ft. Arbuckle in November, 1874, where he set up a boarding school to teach Negro children and... "Just a short time before our arrival in Ft. Arbuckle, Dr. Happy had been shot by some men who were robbing the store at Paul's Valley. All hands had been ordered up and everyone was to remain seated. Dr. Happy started to run back into the warehouse; as he ran he was shot. He was then taken to Ft. Sill where he died in the hospital..." Does anyone know anything else about this incident?
